EXAMINATIONS DEVELOPMENT CENTRE, ABIA STATE
The Examinations Developement Centre, a department in the Ministry of Education, Umuahia started alongside the other departments of the defunct Ministry of Education, Information, Culture, Youth and Sports under the leadership of Dr. Rex Ugorji as Commissioner, in October, 1991 following the creation of Abia State on 27th August 1991.
HISTORY OF THE CENTRE
The centre took off in the present premises of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with its share of assets and liabilities inherited from Imo state amidst numerous problems among which were inadequate accomodations, lack of furniture and paucity of fund.
Five Inspectors of education and other supporting Staff started the centre. They include Mr.C.I.N Ogbonnaya, the first Director of Examinations, Mr. C.U Kelechukwu(now Ven. C.U.Kelechukwu), Mr. M.K.Eye, Elder E.U Udonwu and Mr.I.C Ugboaja, Mr. E.A Onyirimba was in-charge of accounts unit.
From inception till date, the Centre has been manned by eight Directors. The incumbent is the nineth Director and She took over the affairs of the office on the 1st of September, 2011.

As a result of the able leadership of the current commissioner for Education Dr(Mrs) M.O Philips and the Permanent secretary Lady V.O Chigbu the Examinations Development Centre of Ministry of Education Abia State,was succeefully established on the internet. By this wonderful leap into technological lime-light the Examinations Conducted by the Ministry of Education can be registered online and result accessed online.
Kudos to the Government of Chief Sir T.A Orji (Ochendo), Executive Governor Of Abia State under whose transformation agenda this feat was achieved.
